HOW LARGE IS THE CEMETERY?

Evergreen is over 33 acres.

ARE THERE ANY FAMOUS PEOPLE BURIED?

Bill George, Chicago Bears Football Hall of Fame linebacker, is here. So, too, are many of the Barrington area prominent community leaders.

WHO OWNS THE CEMETERY?

Evergreen is a nonprofit association, completely independent of other entities, and welcoming to all denominations. We are designated by IRS code as a 501(c)13.

ARE DONATIONS TAX DEDUCTIBLE?

Yes. Individual contributions to 501(c)(13) entities are tax-deductible as long as they are devoted to the support of the entire organization, not the purchase or maintenance of a specific burial plot.

WHAT IS THE OLDEST BURIAL?

For years it was thought that the cemetery was established in 1816. This was based on the cemetery burial records showing burials in 1816 and 1817. A document was recently discovered refuting this date, with the author claiming a careful examination of the two limestone headstones reveal dates of 1846 and 1847. Subsequent research shows that those headstones are most likely a part of the Clausen family burial grounds which were included in the original 5 acres purchased from Henry Clausen in 1867.

CAN WE ORDER A MONUMENT THROUGH EVERGREEN?

No. We do not offer monument services. However, we can provide a listing of monument companies familiar with our rules and regulations governing memorials and monuments..

ARE THERE ANY MONUMENT RESTRICTIONS REGARDING SIZE, MATERIAL, OR DESIGN?

Our current rules limit the height to 36 inches, and a maximum width of 64 inches for two or more graves, and 28 inches for a single grave. There are some sections which require the installation of flat, flush, grade-level markers. Refer to our Rules and Regulations for further details.

WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE TREES?

When the decline in the trees became evident we engaged the services of certified arborists for an analysis of the cause(s). Unfortunately, there is no remedy for the decline. The older trees are simply aged and unable to adapt to severe changes in the seasons.

IS THERE A PLAN TO REPLANT TREES?

Yes. Since April 2021 we have installed thirty-eight (38) new trees, and aim to continue replanting each spring.

ARE THERE GRAVES AVAILABLE?

Yes, there are many graves available. There are even some graves available in the original five acres of the cemetery which is on the south side.

IS THE BURIAL TERM FOR PERPETUITY OR A CONTRACT TERM?

Burials are for perpetuity, not a contracted term.

ARE THERE ANNUAL MAINTENANCE FEES?

No. When a grave or interment rights is purchased, 15% of the proceeds are deposited into a Perpetual Care Trust for the long-term care of the cemetery.

ARE THERE SPECIFIC LOCATIONS FOR DIFFERENT RELIGIOUS DENOMINATIONS?

No. All are welcome throughout.

IS THE GROUND CONSECRATED?

If a family wishes that to be done, it is done usually as part of the graveside interment service.

CAN TWO BURIALS BE IN ONE GRAVE?

Yes, but only if at least one is an urn, cremation, burial. Evergreen is unable to accommodate two traditional burials in a single grave.

IF A GRAVE IS PURCHASED FOR A TRADITIONAL AND AN URN BURIAL, HOW DOES THAT WORK?

The burials can occur in any order. If the traditional burial takes place first, when the urn burial takes place the grave is opened to the top of the vault for the urn placement. If the urn burial is first, then at the time of the traditional burial the urn is retrieved. It can then be placed in the casket or on top of the vault during the burial.

DO YOU PROVIDE FOR ABOVE GROUND TRADITIONAL CASKET INTERMENT?

We do not offer traditional burial above ground. All traditional burials are in ground.

DO YOU PROVIDE FOR ABOVE GROUND CREMATION URN INURNMENT?

If the family wishes to purchase a private family columbarium as a headstone, the inurnment is permitted in the private columbarium.

ARE THERE FUTURE PLANS FOR A MULTIPLE NICHE COLUMBARIUM FOR INURNMENT BURIALS?

We are currently exploring options for the construction of a columbarium.

DO YOU OFFER INSTALLMENT PLANS?

We currently do not offer installment contracts.

WHAT PORTION OF THE CEMETERY COSTS CAN BE PAID IN ADVANCE?

Only the purchase of the grave or interment rights can be purchased in advance. The only other cemetery cost, which is the open/close fee at the time of the interment or inurnment, is subject to the current fee at that time.

ARE VAULTS REQUIRED FOR TRADITIONAL CASKET BURIALS?

Yes.

DO YOU PROVIDE THE VAULT?

No. vaults are secured through the funeral service provider.

ARE THERE ANY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE TYPE OF URN USED FOR CREMATION BURIALS?

Yes. All cremains must be sealed in either a cultured marble urn/vault or the urn must be placed in a vault specifically made for an urn.

HOW DOES A VET GET BURIED IN VET SECTION?

Veteran burials are controlled by the Barrington American Legion Post 158 Grave Administrator.

CAN YOU HELP SECURE A MILITARY MARKER?

Yes, we can assist with that application process.
